I think it is praiseworthy that SD is making ab
effort to try to make the transition as transparent
as possible, even though it appears that it may
not be 100% transparent.

What we have here is all conjecture on my part.

Schedules Direct has never shared their contract with
Tribune Media Services. I do not know what the
specific deliverables are (and whether the "dns
name" is part of those), nor the term (schedule)
of the contract. I also do not know how that
contract has changed (or is changing) with the
Tribune split. Schedules Direct has kept all
this hidden from their customers, as is their right.
It is entirely possible that Tribune will be in
violation of their contract terms if they drop the
current DNS support. It is also possible that
Schedules Direct took some shortcuts (like
using the tmsdatadirect name directly rather
than various CNAMEs that would have allowed
them to now make the change transparent)
in the rush to get something during the period
of the zap2it labs closing.

In some ways, it does not matter who is at
"fault" (whether SD or Tribune).

You are a customer of Schedules Direct. If they
fail to provide you the service as agreed in your
contract with them (you did read it, I presume,
with all the weasel words that their lawyer added),
and they do not provide a workaround sufficient
to your requirements, your remedy would be to
(a) end the service and request a refund (as
provided in your contract with SD), or, b) sue
for demand of specific performance (where
no one really wins other than the lawyers),
especially because the best you could get is
$25 (unless you could arrange a class action
suit, in which case you get nothing, and the
lawyers get everything for services rendered).
