Well, yes, and no (it depends).
If you had a RHEL 6 package that required Qt,
it likely had a dependency on the Qt 4.6
version that you replaced, and, depending on
the specifics of the depends (some had a
>= version dependency, some a soname dependency,
I have seen both in the past in packages), you
then could end up not being able to install/upgrade
the RHEL package So certainly doable with
enough other constraints (i.e. no conflicting
package requirements) for your appliance.
Again, great, if it works for your specific needs.
