[mythtv-users] XMLTV instead of SchedulesDirect's mfdb?

My understanding about all of this hoopla with the new SD JSON service
and whatnot is that there is a new listings grabber, "mfdb" which is
being supplied by the SD folks.

It seems a lot of people are waiting for something "official" from the
MythTV devs. Fair enough.

I thought I also a message in passing from one of the devs (I could be
mistaken, so please don't tar and feather me if I am) that the ideal
solution is for the new JSON service to just use XMLTV and then there is
one single interface from MythTV to any listings supplier.

I wonder what the SD folks think of that? Is there a reason why the
JSON service and it's mfdb is superior to XMLTV? Is XMLTV not rich and
featureful enough? I mean good for them if it is and thanks much for
supplying an interface that takes advantage of that richness.

But is there perhaps an opportunity to extend XMLTV to take advantage of
all that the new SD JSON service offers?

Cheers,
b.
