"# vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 0.34.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib64/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva info: va_openDriver() returns -1
vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit

I had this problem on mythbuntu. Turns out I only installed the vainfo
package. You also need to install the i965 driver to go along with it.
I do not know the package name for that in CentOS. For Ubuntu
derivatives, these are the two packages to make vaapi work: vainfo
i965-va-driver
