I am also using 1080i and have these firmwares:
firmware version 0x18 dated Oct 19 2011 07:15:48
firmware version 0x15 dated Jun 17 2010 09:26:53
The newer firmware requires adjustments to picture settings if you are
using an old kernel. In case it helps, I also found at some point it was
necessary to do this once, after the driver is loaded:
/usr/bin/v4l2-ctl --device /dev/video0 --set-ctrl=audio_encoding=4
/usr/bin/v4l2-ctl --device /dev/video1 --set-ctrl=audio_encoding=4
