[mythtv-users] MythTV needs to listen on 2 ports

My reason for coming on here was 2 fold.
1. To find the history and the reason as too why it appeared MythTV was only listening on 1 Network. Which Raymond was able to fill me in on that. Again, I thank you.
2. To see if there is a work around to MAKE MythTV listen on 2 networks. I am not one for compiling, but sure would have been willing to pay someone via paypal to do so remotely an use SCREEN utility to allow me to see so I learn how.

If #2 was not an option, I had a fall back plan that I was going to implement until my ability to spin up a dedicated media network was possible or Myth could support a multi network environment.

I did not want network hacks to allow mythtv to work. And that was what everyone kept giving me. I have tried a several time in several ways to explain that. The best suggestions where those who said to spin up a dedicated media network. What I have tried to explain is that in order for me to do so, I need more hardware and was looking for a stop gap till that hardware can be purchased in Feb.

To Joe's comment about VLANS and switches.... I totally understand I don't NEED a new switch to spin up a new VLAN. My Layer3 had 5 vlans already. As far as its concern, I could have multiple VLANs on a single port if I so wished. But I don't want to move cables around, and I don't want a port for my media vlan in the middle of my block of parents or kids jacks. On this note, I am sure my wrongly using the term port when referring to the physical network connection didn't help here.

To Mark P's comment about my ignoring suggestions... I was not ignoring, I have set guidelines as to what I am looking for an a need for understanding as to why if it's not possible. An everyone was ignoring my wants for my network an providing me the easiest solution for them to provide which was network forwarding or some form of network hack. If everyone would have said "Its not possible", I would have dropped it an went forward with what I ended up doing anyways. But everyone one wanted to argue with me and not try to understand why I have things setup the way I do. All I was trying to do was explain my network (which is my learning lab an playground) an I know is overly complex. If we want to take this offline, I would be more than happy to start a separate email with just the people who want to chat about this.

Since no one as responded to my comments about my getting off the group (even to me directly), I will stay on. I am betting I can learn some new things, an at some point provide something as well.

There is no use in here in trying to understand. People are as they are and luckily computers are easier to understand.
We try to offer assistance and ideas but what people do with it is wholly up to them selfs.
Home networks are often setup far more complex than strictly needed.
It is our learning, testing and playing ground. And if you have set out to do it one way, because you want to learn how to do that, ...
;)
