For WOW, I have found the dslreports forum to be a great place to get in
touch with technical employees who actually know what they are talking
about (and know the right people to ask when they don't have the answer).
I'm not sure if the comcast equivalent forum is of the same quality, but
it's certain work a shot. Take a look around, search, or ask about it here:

Also, I did a quick search. It appears you used to be able to downgrade
HDHR products, but a few years back they implemented a lock to prevent it
from happening. Very unfortunate. I'll make sure to NEVER "upgrade" mine.
Under the assumption that new devices would probably come with new firmware
(maybe not quite yet, but if not, then soon), If you get desperate, you
could try to obtain a used one off of ebay. Before you buy, ask the seller
which version of firmware it's running.
