I've got the same problem - the TV can see the server but not the list of recordings, music or videos. I'm running Mythbuntu 12.04 and have myth TV and Mythbuntu update repositories activated in MCC.
This was working last week on my Samsung 'smart TV' but not now.
I've checked and also not working with VLC.
I tried installing minidlna and setting up the 'recordings' folder. Both the TV and VLC could see the list of files (as a list of the actual filenames - not the 'friendly' name) and play them.
