Fair enough.   I have a first-generation ION, but with a dual-core atom
that supports hyperthreading at that.   Now that I'm running 64-bit and
have 2x RAM as before, it's even zippier.  The only aspect that is
painful are things that require software decoding (e.g. burning a DVD
from an HD h.264 recording)

But this brings up a good question.   Now that the ION/ION2 are a bit
long in the tooth, what are their modern-day replacements (small,
low-watt, but more capable CPU/GPU)?   It used to be that nvidia
graphics was pretty much the only way to go for smooth playback, and
based on your post, it seems that this still may be the case?
