Curious... Why "cheap"? It's certainly inexpensive. However, the Pi is
decently made, at least as well as any other SBC out there. It supports
HDMI/Audio/CEC, which all works out of the box without hassling with ALSA
configs etc.. Can support a simple IR receiver, pretty much just the IR
module itself connected to a couple header pins. Some of the ease of
use/setup comes down to a known platform vs having to support everything,
but it's a valid point for a user.

As for "luxury", what's it missing? I would posit that XBMC on a Pi can do
almost anything a MythFE can do, and just as well. The UI is very nice,
extensive metadata support, "bling" for those into that,
Video/Audio/web/etc.. Loads of plugins for streaming and other content.
Sure, comskip would be nice, but I don't mind the lack much. And it could
be implemented if someone cared to. It's not like it takes much CPU for
that. I don't actually consider it a DVR, it's a media center. DVR is a
side gig for it, that I use MythBE for anyway as it's a much nicer setup.
It also handles archived media better, compared to MythFE from a version
back. I acknowledge it may have improved since I last used it. I also
acknowledge that my needs might be different. For example, I don't care in
the least about live TV. That's a deal-breaker for some people. I'm sure
there are other things.

They aren't perfect, but they are very good.
