It's pretty trivial to forward ports with ssh to secure a direct backend 
conenction without openning unsafe ports to the world.
You'll add cpu load at each end, encrypting all the video data as well 
as the control data but as it all goes over the same port there's not a 
lot you can do about that afaik.
Just try it and see how it goes.
