I should have been more specific.  But looking at the "directtv_http.pl" 
perl script told me that "isn't the droid I'm looking for"!

I can control the Dish Network STB (ViP222k) over IP (both TV1 and TV2, 
no IR required), but only using the 'upnp' protocol (miranda.py, yeah, 
python :).

I was concerned I missed an emerging 'http' protocol / scripting 
machinery that would accomplish the same.
