Either the machine is BIOS or if it’s newer than a year ot two EFI

You need to enter the BIOS screen and set boot order taking note of secure boot (W8 requires the option, donno what they do about BIOS/mbr)

Really anything *can* be done but there is no setting that would let linux lock out windows. You *may* need to learn all about secure boot for win 8. Franky boot linux on a mem stick (say ubuntu)
On a linux box
dd if=xubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb
boot it run Try …
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda

Your disk is GONE and has no trace (again anything is possible) of linux or anything
