OPEX vs CAPEX.  You would have to also include the time value
of money, and the ROI in any investments.  That is if you want
a real economic answer, rather than a "feels good" answer that
many will no doubt provide.

Any particular manufacture has had "bad designs" and "bad lots", and
anecdotal evidence (even your own) is not something you should base
your actions on.  Real statistics based on actual root cause analysis
(which you are likely to not be able to perform) is needed for rational
business decisions to be made.



Certainly with unlimited funds I would replace all my spinning rust
with a ZFS RAIDZ3 FusionIO (or Violin) flash storage farm, just because
I could (and it would be fabulous).  But it would not be a rational choice,
just a cool choice, to go along with my Gulfstream G650 (I did say
unlimited funds).
