the backend will not attempt to open a recording that is 0 bytes and
that has been closed (it will never grow bigger).
before it would accept to do so, and keep trying to read over and over
until the client dropped the connection.
now the backend just returns an error when the frontend tries to open it.
that's the only thing I can think of that could explain a change in
the behaviour seen.
at a guess, the xbmc plugin doesnt check if there's an error returns
and attempts to send/receive data anyway
not that the backend should crash obviously... but without a
backtrace, not much we can do yet.
would have to attempt to reproduce the problem myself
