There's the other old chestnut which bit me recently - if this is a system which
has been around for a while then check your CMOS battery! It may be that the
power was off long enough to lose the BIOS settings. Now, you might get a
warning when rebooting, either in the BIOS or in dmesg but that's not guaranteed.
Most CMOS batteries don't have dates on them so one can only guess how old they
are and what the charge state is. Certainly worth a check unless your board is
brand new.
