If you have enough storage (and this solution is targeted at those
that do), one may very well find that the number of drives needing
to be replaced per day (and the staff to do it) makes it attractive
to just write off a brick until some future (scheduled) "reaper" day
(where you do bulk replacement), and you can automate the
entire process.  As with all else, the solution allows one to choose
their poison (some orgs forget that staff cost money too).
