FWIW, you should always use Auto unless your system has broken OpenGL 
(and drivers/windowing systems that lie about it), as then MythTV will 
use OpenGL when appropriate (i.e. normally) and use Qt when OpenGL 
wouldn't work well (e.g. when you're using X redisplay to run 
mythtv-setup from another display or whatever).

Paint engine
This selects what MythTV uses to draw. Choosing 'Auto' is recommended, 
unless running on systems with broken OpenGL implementations (broken 
hardware or drivers or windowing systems) where only Qt works.
