Thanks for your suggestion.

Since I added the modprobe .conf file to define the DVB adapter order,
and deleted an encrypted channel that I couldn't receive, I have had no
more zero-length recordings. It is early days, as I only did this a
couple of days ago, but at the moment, it is looking good.
