Its not only about having less then 2^32bytes of memory...

64bit code has twice the number of registers available which makes the 
compilers live lots easier. (good for inner loops in video filters etc)

Also your 32bit logical address space is partitioned into different 
parts and not every 4kb of the address space must be mapped to physical 
memory. So 32bit was good when we had 256mb memory or thereabout.
And you get the NX bit, allowing some security features for you OS.
