Devices connected via the serial port do not have any plug-n-play or
auto-detection support.
There is no automatic driver loading for devices connected to serial
port.
AFAIU the OP must have a script that started lirc-serial with parameters
that set the "comm" port & baud rate etc..

Do some analogue tuner cards have serial ports & that this has messed up
the OP lirc-serial script?
