You mentioned 'mythcommflag' which makes me wonder.  I run shutdown in
a terminal to turn off my computer a short time after the last
scheduled recording at night (the shutdown capability built into
MythTV stopped working for me some time ago, so I just started
scheduling it manually).  If mythcommflag was still running when  the
system shut down could this cause this problem?  A little to late to
fix it now, but maybe I can avoid duplicating it in the future.

Also, since I can't get mythconverg_backup.pl to work, any suggestions
on the safest way to fix the database?
