Paul, while this definitely is a perfectly serious question, it is not a
question to be discussed on this (public) list! There are personal
decisions to be made (including prioritizing weightings of other
private/open source projects one is working for) that are not to be
discussed with multiple people or even in a public list.
Additionally, while it does is a serious question, this does not say that
it is not an unhelpful comment! In my opinion it is both at the same time.
Why it is an unhelpful comment?
Because it provides no additional information on the original topic. It is
a classical "topic escaper".
What would be helpful instead?
Statements from the theme developer like: I won't do this. This is what
Thomas has done and this is fine. Now I know, I never will like the
current Mythbuntu theme again and I can deal with this situation.
This allowed me to ask the general question to this list on why there is
no democratic approach to create a standard theme for the big user base
from which anyone can switch to a theme that has either improved
readability or a special design.
This allows me as well to think about my personal circumstances that may
lead to a decision on creating my own theme - and then this is a decision
made by me. If this decision was made by me and was not forced by other
people, then there is a chance for really creating this new theme and
there is a chance for an acceptable quality of this new theme.
Last, but not least, I won't deny that there are people not knowing the
open source context of mythtv. To give the general information that one
may contribute to this project is still important, therefore!
But I never will accept such a comment as a topic escaper, just to win the
discussion or to shut up criticism! (though such a reaction is deeply
grounded in the human being...)
