Could be theme problem. What theme are you using?

With Xmas version of the MythCenter-wide theme you press SELECT on <New 
Phrase> which move focus to the text edit. You enter the phrase you want 
to search for then DOWN to move to the OK button. Then press SELECT to 
add it.
