Correction, evidently the black grub screen booted 12.04 from the
terrabyte, instead of the 250. I rebooted and this time the terminal didn't
remember the addition, following is the report:

daryl at daryl-A780L3C:~$ sudo apt-get --simulate --only-upgrade install
grub-pc
[sudo] password for daryl:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
grub-pc is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer
required:
  libxcb-dri2-0 libxrandr-ltsq2
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
