 I second what Geoff said, and add

chmod -x /usr/bin/pulseaudio

I have to do that to make sure it doesn't fire up.  After a pulseaudio
update, I have to do this again.  YMMV, but I don't see pulseaudio
disappear until I do the chmod.

I'm running Fedora 20 as well.  I have gotten things working with mythtv
and pulseaudio before.  It's weird that you aren't seeing any audio devices
at all.  Are you sure you compiled in the audio support?  I don't compile
from source, so I can't tell you what option it is, but I would look there
as well.
