[mythtv-users] HDPVR IR Blaster - Protocol error, transmission failed

I'm trying to use the HDPVR's (lirc_zilog tx_only=1) IR transmitter on
Ubuntu Precise , kernel 3.5.0-48, Myth 0.27+fixes.

The module 'lirc_zilog' loads okay and I can run lircd on the device:

    lircd -n --pidfile=/var/run/lirc/lircd-hdpvr1 --device=/dev/lirc1
    --output=/var/run/lirc/lircd-hdpvr1
    /usr/share/lirc/extras/transmitters/dish/general.conf

I can list the remote codes:

    irsend --device=/var/run/lirc/lircd-hdpvr1 LIST "dish" ""

But I can't send any commands, nor does the emitter flash:

    irsend --device=/var/run/lirc/lircd-hdpvr1 SEND_ONCE dish left
irsend: command failed: SEND_ONCE dish left
    irsend: transmission failed

lircd reports:
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: accepted new client on /var/run/lirc/lircd-hdpvr1
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: write failed
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: Protocol error
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: error processing command: SEND_ONCE dish left
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: transmission failed
> lircd-0.9.0[8981]: removed client

I've tried several transmitter/remote config files with the same results.

I would greatly appreciate some guidance here as I'm not sure what is
going on, am I missing something about lircd protocols?

Thanks,
MC
