[mythtv-users] Upgrade MythBuntu 12.04 32-bit to 14.04 64-bit?

Do you have separate drives for os and recordings ? The way you upgrade
between newer version of ubuntu is to backup your database and install
newest ubuntu on os drive (partition). You want to make sure you have
backup or better yet get new ssd and install new ubuntu version on it. All
you have to do is restore database and make sure partitions have same names
and you should be ok. You could run arch linux and avoid having to
upgrading os.
