I'd like to second the concept of using an A/V receiver.  Given an
appropriate receiver, it doesn't matter at all what sort of connections
your TV has.  Hell, just a single HDMI input and nothing else would be
fine.    You connect to the receiver in whatever way you want, whether
that be HDMI, optical, digital coax, or even just stereo L/R.
