If none are listed there, you'll have to build MythTV yourself.

That statement may well be true but I suspect you will agree it is a bit
cavalier. I don’t do builds anymore, my last one was in the early 1980s. My
programming and developing days are far behind me and I’m just looking for a
system that allows me to eliminate WMC. I thought I had one.

I had a system where my backend was 0.25-fixes, my Mythtv frontend was 0.25
running on Windows and my two low power (Zotac ZBOX AD03 running XBMC
(OpenELEC 3.2). I followed the advice to upgrade my backend to 0.27 which I
did, installing it on a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 13.04.

My new backend is running perfectly and I have fair control over it with
MythWeb. My MythTV frontend is gone because the 0.25 frontend will not
communicate with the 0.27 backend and there is no 0.27 frontend for Windows.
My XBMC boxes are gone because their cmyth add-on evidently cannot
communicate with the 0.27 backend. I installed MythTV frontends on Xubuntu
on those boxes and they connect just fine to the backend but they cannot
deliver HD video, with the video completely unable to keep up with the
stream.

I guess I will start over in the morning, hopefully I will still be able to
find a repository with 0.25 on it.

Mike,

I feel your pain, sorry to hear that you have had problems upgrading.
However the xubuntu boxes should be able to keep up with HD video, they
aren't running only with Wifi are they?

Just a heads up that if you don't have a backup of the database for 0.25,
you won't be able to downgrade because a 0.25 backend won't be able to read
a 0.27 database. There were pretty big changes to the database in 0.26 and
to downgrade from there would be a pain in the ....

Andréas

Andreas,

The xubuntu boxes are hard wired through a gigabyte switch so that isn’t the
problem. I suspect it is a driver issue.

Fortunately I don’t have a large enough database yet to really worry about
it so I will start over with a fresh install of Ubuntu server on a clean
system disk. I’m hoping the Ubuntu repositories still have 0.25

Ok,

Then you should be sorted. What you can do as well is run the 0.26 version.
I am running 0.26, the only reason I haven't upgraded yet is because there
isn't a client for windows in 0.27, however I have found one for 0.26. I am
also running XBMC on my linux laptop, and it can connect to 0.26 without any
problems. So my tip to you would be to download mythbuntu and run it with
the 0.26 repos enabled.

Thanks Andreas, evidently the default version in the Ubuntu repositories is
now 0.26 so that is what I installed even though I’m still nervous about the
lossless transcode issue. The new backend is running fine even though it
does not start on boot, I have to manually start it, but that’s something
I’ll deal with.

My big problem is that unlike all previous versions, the 0.26 backend does
not receive the stream from the HDHomerun Prime. If I start a live tv show
from XBMC I get the “working” notice until it times out. When a recording
starts, the file size is shown as B (on Mythweb). In both cases I can see
from my HDHomerun utility that the correct tuner has tuned the correct
channel but no data stream is being delivered. This has never happened to me
as long as I have been working with MythTV. I checked the logs (none are
attached because I’m writing this from a Windows machine that doesn’t know
how to access files from the Ubuntu server yet) and couldn’t see anything
useful. All log files except mythev_setup.log and mythbackend.log were null
and in those the only thing resembling an error was “unable to
connect#012Database error was #012Access denied for user ‘mythtv’

I did manage to find an 0.26 frontend for Windows but the download server
was far more interested in selling me something than in actually delivering
a download so I aborted it after an hour.

I guess I need to be more determined to find a repository with 0.25 backend
in it. I haven’t tried adding mythbuntu/0.25 to my repository list yet but I
guess that’s where I go in the morning. I guess at some point in my 75 years
I have been more frustrated than I am right now but I sure don’t remember
when.
