A lot of BIOSes these days default to displaying a pretty logo screen
instead of useful information during POST.  There is normally a
setting for logo or not, but if the BIOS is currently set to display
the logo, then usually hitting the tab key while the logo is displayed
will switch to displaying the POST information.  But I would recommend
turning off the logo option - I always do that first thing when
booting a new motherboard.  Otherwise there will not be enough time
normally to read anything useful from the POST information before it
disappears again.  There is also usually a BIOS option for how long
the POST information will be displayed before the BIOS attempts to
boot the first boot device.

Totally OT: My new motherboard for my Windows box (Asus Sabertooth
990FX R2.0) even has an way of installing a custom logo to replace the
Asus one.
