Hi,
After being a mythtv user for a long time, I finally decided I wanted to add some networked mythfrontends to my setup. So I configured my frontend/backend combo by updating from localhost to it's actual ip address, edited the etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf file to remove the asterisk in front of the bind-address line, ran the "grant all privileges on *.* to 'mythtv'@'localhost' with grant option;" commands, and prayed that I did all that was necessary to get things to work...
Unfortunately, I am still not able to get things working... My remote frontend doesn't connect with my backend. When I try to login to the database remotely I can something akin to this: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'<remote hostname>.local' (using password: YES). Using a similar command from the local machine results in a similar error message. Searching through the web, I came across this: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:Initial_Installation which prompted me to attempt this command (in the database) "create user 'mythtv'@'%' identified by 'mythtv';" -- which resulted in "ERROR 1396 (HY000): Operation CREATE USER failed for 'mythtv'@'%'"
Does anyone have any insight into what I might be missing? Thanks in advance,
