I stopped following your thread towards the end but I believe the late consensus was that comcast will soon remove all direct access to all channels. You’ll have to go through a set top box to pick up any of their programming and then capture the analog output of that box with mythtv. In that scenario your best bet is to feed the set top box output into the analog input of your 1800 and connect the 1800’s digital input, and the 2250’s combo input to your attic antenna for a total of four tuners. Configuring the digital part of that is dead easy while the analog is moderate to hard. There’s a lot of goodwill & free advice here so you still have a fair chance of getting it working.

About firmware: debian, and therefore ubuntu, has a package “firmware-ivtv” which contains some of the firmware you need. You should probably start by installing that package (apt-get install firmware-ivtv) and then go about getting the missing stuff manually. It’s always best to let the distro handle things for you as you get timely updates, warnings about conflicts, and handy stuff like that.
