Try running 'mythfrontend -v media  --loglevel debug'

That should show what cdio is doing.

Start with an empty cd drive, go to the music playback screen then put a 
cd in. If all is well you should see that the cd is detected and then a 
lookup is made to freedb to fetch the metadata.
