Bill, Want to thank you for your response so far.

Here is the output of the command you wanted me to run:

---------------------------------------------------

coffee at mythtv2013:~$ 10.0.1.12>:6544/Myth/GetHostName
-bash: :6544/Myth/GetHostName: No such file or directory
coffee at mythtv2013:~$

---------------------------------------------------

I think the problem isthat I dont even have anything running on port
6544. The mythtv box (mythtv2013 / 10.0.1.12) is a combo FE/BE box and
the nmap output from my surfing box is:

------------------------------------------------------------

[coffee at coffee ~]$ nmap mythtv2013

Starting Nmap 6.01 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2013-05-09 22:24 EDT
Nmap scan report for mythtv2013 (10.0.1.12)
Host is up (0.00020s latency).
rDNS record for 10.0.1.12: mythtv2013.athome.net
Not shown: 991 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
80/tcp open http
111/tcp open rpcbind
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
2049/tcp open nfs
5100/tcp open admd
5900/tcp open vnc
6543/tcp open mythtv

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.05 seconds
[coffee at coffee ~]$

--------------------------------------------------------------

I dont even have anything running on port 6544. I checked the logs and
no string concerning port 6544. At the risk of sounding stupid, Where
might I check if mythbackend is running with the -noupnp option?

Im sure this should be some stupid silly problem but I really dont
knowat this point(??)

thanks,

coffee
