[mythtv-users] Mythtv compiling from source for Mint 15 Help Please!

Given you have stated that you are a "Linux newbie", I would suggest
starting with a card that is known to work with MythTV.  There is a
hardware list available through the wiki.  Next, I would suggest using
packages rather than compiling from source.  MythTV has a number of
dependencies that will take forever to collect on your own.  In addition,
ensuring that you have selected the correct switches for compiling will be
a challenge.

MythTV can work well, but even those of us who have been running systems
for years (through many hardware changes as well), generally install from
packages and stick to the recommended hardware.  If you decide to forge
your own path, you WILL learn a lot about Linux, but at the end of the day
you may not have a working system.
