Thank you for your reply. I have looked at that bug report on trac. I
don't know which version that's gone into (need to pull from the git
repository in order to find out), but I thought I'd add that I am
running a fully up-to-date 0.26-fixes from the mythbuntu repositories on
top of Ubuntu 12.04, and the problem is still there. Now running
v0.26.0-171-gbfd2408.

So given the time stamps in the above bug report I suspect that what I'm
running already includes that particular fix.

What additional information should I provide, or how could I go about
troubleshooting this?
