Step 0: Review the install instructions for 0.26, available at
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythTV-HOWTO_-_0.26
It will (probably) remind you of system customizations
you may have made a long long time ago (in a distro
far far away). In particular, if this a combined BE/FE
system, you may had added your mythtv user to the
audio/video groups, and/or given the user higher priority.
Step 0.5: Be sure to save all the data in your mythtv user home
directory (commonly the config is mostly in ~mythtv/.mythtv,
but your usage will vary, and you may have added other
things, such as pulseaudio/also configs to your home).
In my recollection, a mythconverg_restore does not restore
mysql db permissions (likely to your mythtv user). Before
restoring the database, run the "initialize the mysql database"
step in the install instructions (usually something like
mysql -u root < mc.sql) that will create the user, and set
the permissions (review the mc.sql for any local customizations,
just as not having the password of mythtv be mythtv).
