Doh! Fell down another hole I should have remembered from earlier upgrades...

Having got mythweb now working (using the blunt object method) I have discovered 
that for some reason the Debian scripts which initialise the mythtv installation 
use the /hostname/ in config.xml. Previously, they used the fdqn in config.xml.

So, this time when I started up mythtv-setup I ended up with... ruby, instead of 
ruby.example.com. No wonder I couldn't find anything.

Going to edit my config.xml back and rerun the restore. That should give me back 
my system. Unfortunately, I'll still have the xmltv poser.
