Out of curiosity, have you looked at your backend logs at the time of the
zero byte recordings?  Are you seeing the dreaded "Recording will not
commence until a PMT is set" messages?  If so, I don't think this is
related to the HDHR firmware. (see http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/11334)
