I've been having the black screen on playback as well.  I'm using a GT
430 and VDPAU.  It started happening ~2 weeks ago (maybe?).  One thing
I've noticed is when it happens if I ssh in to the system and tail
/var/log/Xorg.0.log it will show that is has switched resolutions but
it does not list a refresh rate.  Normally it will show something like
[   688.023] (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "DFP-1:1920x1080_60".   When
I get the blank screen all I see is [   688.023] (II) NVIDIA(0):
Setting mode "DFP-1:1920x1080" with no refresh.
