Thanks for the input.

Sigh... No matter how much I try to keep up, there's always something I missed.

If I understand you correctly, I will want to make my partition start
at sector 64, right?

Since I normally use gparted to partition disks I add to an
established system, how do I make it do that, or do I need to learn to
use a new tool (perhaps there's an option I hadn't noticed to use GPT
rather than MBR?)?  Any suggestions (tools or methods) appreciated.
