If you want to be prepared a little better for "my partition table got
blown away", go, right now, and do 

  # fdisk -l

and print out the results on paper and stick it to your machine.

Go ahead; I'll wait.

There, now; don't you feel better knowing that you can easily recreate 
those partitions in the future?  :-)
