Sorry for slight off-topic - but if You are in disk-less camp, You can
look on:
http://www.minimyth.org
and
http://minimyth2.linuxd.org
Second one has components (linux/xorg/alsa/lirc/drivers/etc..) all on
current verssions - so I would say: if given feature (HD, Dolby trueHD,
etc) is supported by GNU/Linux - it should work out-of-box or after some
config tweaking.
As default approach I propose RAM-disk based PXE boot as it works silky
smooth. But, if by any reasons, You want to have direct access to
frontend software content - You can boot minimyth2 via PXE and use root
fs as NFS share on central server.
