And therein lies the problem: I already invest about 6 times more of my
effort in this DVR which is not mine for free than I want to; I'm not 
looking to volunteer to expand that further by putting myself on the 
critical path unnecessarily.

That's why I *strongly* prefer to run with repo packages for both the
subsystem proper and the VGA drivers.
