I should have mentioned that I am using MythWeb from its git repo. My current 
code is at commit 6d10afe in the 0.27-fixes branch, and is up to date for that 
branch.

I switched to the master branch, and now it appears that I don't get the pixmaps 
no matter the setting. That does speed it up.
