Greetings Mythizens, In the interest o reducing my carbon footprint I'm
looking into the auto-wake/shutdown features, but I need some
clarification. From this site:
http://ghichepcanhan.com/2013/05/29/how-to-setup-automatic-shutdown-and-automatic-wakeup-with-mythtv/

I've generated the following terminal output:
daryl at daryl-A780L3C:~$ sudo grep -i rtc /var/log/dmesg
[sudo] password for daryl:
[ 0.200473] RTC time: 13:10:11, date: 08/28/13
[ 1.249014] rtc_cmos 00:03: RTC can wake from S4
[ 1.249140] rtc_cmos 00:03: rtc core: registered rtc_cmos as rtc0
[ 1.249167] rtc0: alarms up to one month, y3k, 114 bytes nvram, hpet irqs
[ 1.256332] rtc_cmos 00:03: setting system clock to 2013-08-28 13:10:12
UTC (1377695412)
daryl at daryl-A780L3C:~$ cat /proc/driver/rtc
rtc_time : 13:15:55
rtc_date : 2013-08-28
alrm_time : 00:00:00
alrm_date : 2013-08-29
alarm_IRQ : yes
alrm_pending : no
update IRQ enabled : no
periodic IRQ enabled : no
periodic IRQ frequency : 1024
max user IRQ frequency : 64
24hr : yes
periodic_IRQ : no
update_IRQ : no
HPET_emulated : yes
BCD : yes
DST_enable : no
periodic_freq : 1024
batt_status : okay

which makes me think there is no UTC option and I must use rtc, further in
BIOS I can toggle between S1, S2, S3, and auto, no S4 which is what the
terminal says I can wake from. Am I on the right track? Direction and/or
pointers greatly appreciated.

RTC time was identical to desktop display time in each case.

Daryl
