Actually, I thought that the Google analysis of their drives showed
that the temperature did not affect the longevity as long as the
maximum temperature rating of the drive was not exceeded.  Up until
that report, everybody just seems to have assumed that higher
temperatures are worse for drives, but that actually seems to be a
myth according to Google's results.
