There's no flame war.  That's exactly the purpose of a slave backend.  Add tuners, optionally add disks, and nothing more.  The only real requirement is that the system have sufficient memory to load mythbackend and its shared library dependencies.  Anything with enough memory for that would have plenty of power to handle a digital tuner or hardware encoder.

As mentioned, the NessieDVB guy was looking into this several months back, but ended up deciding against, not because the box couldn't handle it, but rather because it wouldn't have afforded him any advantages to just using the existing vtuner support he had already written.
