i took a shot at installing the new amd code with not great results and
if anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate the help;

system: amd e-350 nettop
os: lubuntu 12.10
myth: 0.25 with fixes from mythbuntu repository
backend has hdhomerun and hdpvr attached

followed instructions elsewhere and installed newest drm-next kernel and
headers;
installed firmware files, (although in the directory given there was
nothing new for PALM, which is what the chipset shows. it is radeon 6310)

compiled mesa from git;

all went well and vdapuinfo revealed all the codecs.
dmesg shows uvd activated

in mplayer a h264 high bitrate file that could not play previously
played well using vdpau

in mythfrontend using vdpau with a variety of deinterlacers, the content
from hdpvr (h264) every 4 or 5 seconds would stutter and the frame rate
would drop and audio drops out. cpu usage was under 20 per cent. before
cpu at 100 per cent and could not play. the mpeg2 material with temporal
1x or 2x played fairly well, but not as good as it plays without vdpau,
just using standard.

in mplayer i did receive a message that it was playing back at 60fps to
match display, this on a movie at 24 fps. but the playback was very
good. so maybe this has to do with the refresh rates or similar. i don't
know enough about any xorg settings to change anything, so if anyone has
any thoughts, i'd appreciate it.

thanks.
